Having proficiency in data comes at an average learning cost of £198.01, whereas project management has an average cost of £322.56. Coding With the rise of the digital age and complex technologies, skill sets like coding are becoming a real asset. If you’re looking to take a step into the coding and software development industry, there are a variety of skills that can be learned, all with their unique career paths. JavaScript ranks as the most desired skill with more than 5,000 jobs available. With the average cost to learn javascript being £123.56, it’s an affordable career to take a step in to. C# and python are also popular coding skills with a match for their demand in the job industry. Language Learning a new language is a bucket list favorite for many people, but rarely do we think about turning it into a career. Whilst there are fewer job opportunities for this skill compared to the likes of business and coding skills, there is still a demand for them. French and German rank as the most in-demand languages to have, closely followed by Spanish. However, it would be fair to say that having an additional language is an attractive skill all employers have a desire for. Creative Whilst there are many more technical skills emerging with the rise of the digital age, the creative industry is still booming when it comes to desirable skills that companies are looking for. With the number of online courses rising rapidly, creative skills such as photoshop, animation, and illustrator are all easily accessible and immensely useful in a number of roles. The competition is high, however, but with photoshop having more than 1,000 jobs available, it could prove to be the best creative skill to learn. Electrical skill sets have a huge demand of more than 11,000 jobs being available and with the skill costing on average £188.85, it’s accessible for many too. Value Of Apprentices To UK Businesses Is Approx £1.8B Apprentices delivered around £1.8 billion of net economic benefits to UK organisations last year, according to the latest research from the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), the UK’s leading qualification and membership body for accounting staff.   The report compiled by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) found that apprentices offer UK businesses a significant return on their investment, with economic output often exceeding the average wage and training costs. The research report  The Value of Apprentices  presents a compelling case for organisations to take on even one apprentice: every time they do they receive, on average, a bottom-line boost of more than £2,000 once wage and training costs have been factored in. The latest findings are validated by recent research from  The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (August 2013), in which high percentages of employers reported numerous benefits from hiring apprentices, including improved product and service quality (72 per cent), enhanced productivity (68 per cent) and even increased morale and organisational reputation. Commenting on the research,  Jane Scott Paul,  Chief Executive of AAT  said: Take-up of apprenticeship schemes has grown sharply over the past five years, as more and more organisations enjoy the benefits that apprentices can bring to the workplace; this is benefitting their business and bolstering economic recovery and growth. “We now need to do more to engage with smaller businesses â€" to break down the misconceptions and make it easier for smaller enterprises to unlock the full potential of training apprentices on the job and to gain specific skills relevant to their business. Developing Self Leadership Three Skills that Lead to Success - Contrary to common belief, self leadership is not a rare ability reserved only for the Mark Zuckerbergs and Oprah Winfreys of the world. It is a mindset and skill set that can be learned. In the newly released Leading at a Higher Level, my coauthors and I teach the three skills you’ll need to lead yourself to success. The First Skill: Challenge Assumed Constraints A self leader is a person who challenges assumed constraints. An assumed constraint is a belief, based on past  experience, that limits new experiences. For example, when he challenged the assumed constraint that severe physical disabilities would limit his career, Steven Hawking used his knowledge and personal power to become one of the most celebrated physicists in history. Or consider the example of the Nordstrom salesperson whose customer requested a perfume that Nordstrom didn’t carry. The salesperson said, “I’m sorry, we don’t sell that perfume. But I know where I can get it in the mall. How long will you be in our store?” “About thirty minutes,” the customer said. Rather than accept the assumed constraint of not having the right inventory, the salesperson went to another store, purchased the perfume the customer wanted, came back to Nordstrom, gift wrapped it, sold it at costâ€"and made a raving fan customer. The Second Skill: Activate Points of Power Skillful self leaders know how to activate their points of powerâ€"whether it’s knowledge power, personal power, relationship power, task power, or position power. For example, many people assume that because they do not have direct authority or position power, they cannot be leaders or influence outcomes. Believing that you can’t make a decision or take initiative because it’s not specifically spelled out in your job descriptionâ€"or because you’re not rich enough, smart enough, famous enough, etc.â€"is an assumed constraint. People can tap into several different points of power, and those who do often change the world. Mother Teresaâ€"a minority Albanian who spoke broken Englishâ€"did not begin her amazing career with a high position and authority within the church. She used her personal power to achieve her goal of bringing dignity to the destitute. Fame and success followed. The Third Skill: Be Proactive Self leaders have learned the power of being proactiveâ€"in other words, they know how to anticipate and manage problems and needs. To be proactive, you need to learn how to diagnose your own development levelâ€"where you are in terms of your competence and commitment to get something done. If you don’t have the tools, skills, and competence to do a specific task or solve a specific problem, you need to ask for directionâ€"someone to show you how. If you doubt yourself and are wavering on your commitment to complete a task, you need to ask for supportâ€"someone to cheer you on. To give you an example, an entrepreneur realized she needed help with the accounting side of her business. While she thought she knew enough about basic bookkeeping to stay organized, her knowledge and good intentions hadn’t produced good results. Why? Because she needed direction to develop the skills to stay financially sound. And she needed supportâ€"in the form of a coachâ€"to keep her commitment to stay on top of her small business finances. When you go it aloneâ€"without getting the direction and support you need to stay on trackâ€"you’re less likely to succeed. The willingness to look inside, assess your shortcomings, and ask for help is the hallmark of a self leader. If its a job you seek, imagine that the people you love in your life receive their dream jobs.Next, move to strangers. Imagine everyone you dont know, everyone on Earth, receiving jobs. It just rains down on them by the thousands.Finally, imagine the people you dont like getting jobs.Conceptualize giving away an infinite number of jobs to every human on Earth.Feel the joy that brings.Do this once a day, for at least 10 minutes, right after you wake up, for 30 days. I cant guarantee that youll have a job by then, but from my own experience I can guarantee that you will feel VERY different about your situation.
